He taught theatre at a regional high school, had a theatre company, produced freelance material for theatre and television and had a 220 acre farm near Sawyerville in the Eastern Townships before finally bowing to the inevitable and going to McGill Law School in 1977, at age 31, as a single parent of a six year old son.

In 1993 Mr. Menzies and the other litigation lawyers at Honsl Kelly formed their own firm, Menzies & Associates, which moved in 1996 to premises at 111 Sherwood Drive in the Civic Hospital area of Ottawa. The firm, now Menzies Lawyers, moved in 2012 and again in December 2018 to 150 Isabella Street in the Glebe.
Mr. Menzies practiced litigation in a variety of fields: Criminal, Civil, Family, Tax and Bankruptcy, both in French and in English, from L’Orignal to Pembroke, Perth to Cornwall, but primarily in Ottawa, for 30 years. He has appeared and argued cases before every Court and Tribunal in Ontario and has extensive trial experience.
Mr. Menzies took a sabbatical to travel around the world for a year from July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011. On his return, Mr. Menzies entered into a new relationship with his former firm in which he provides mentoring and counsel services to young lawyers in the firm and to their clients and he continues to offer trial counsel services to lawyers in his firm and outside it, across Eastern Ontario, in either of the official languages.
Mr. Menzies is the father of four adult sons and proud grandpa to nine grandchildren and counting. He rides horses with the Ottawa Valley Hunt and lives with his patient and supportive wife, Norma, on the western edge of rural Ottawa.
